In no particular order, here are my favorite songs to listen to when traveling, or when wanting to think back on past travels.
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
That hurry up and go feeling. Sometimes a vacation cannot come fast enough and this song reminds me of that feeling. It’s the anticipation on the way to the airport and happy that vacation is finally here. I made it this far and I am ready for this adventure kind of feeling.
I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers
From the moment the car door shuts and I am dragging my suitcase through the airport, the tempo of this song helps me navigate through the airport crowds, ready to see what happens next on the adventure.
Dog Days Are Over by Florence + the Machine
If I am running late or there is an unexpected last-minute gate change, this song gets me going with determination. No matter what has happened in the past, traveling amplifies moments and makes us more mindful of the present. All that matters on vacation right now is, frankly, now.
Treat People With Kindness by Harry Styles
Sometimes we all need this reminder while traveling. Delays, cancellations, and the loud person sitting nearby can drain our patience when all we want is to go relax at the resort already. This song is a lovely reminder of our universal need for kindness even in the most challenging of situations.
End of The Line by The Traveling Wilburys
When you finally reach the hotel/resort/ship, it’s that moment when the first sip of your cocktail brings sheer bliss. You can exhale completely and relax however you want. Because traveling well is a form of self-care.
Bonus Track: Welcome to New York by Taylor Swift
Manhattan is always a delight, with an atmosphere and vibe all its own. This song reminds me of the moment you step out of the taxi and New York greets you like an old friend. It never gets old.
