You might know Thailand from White Lotus season 3… but you won’t find super yachts or scandal waiting for you in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
What you will find?
📌 Ancient temples just a stone’s throw away from really good coffee
📌 Night markets that somehow turn into dinner plans
📌 Elephant sanctuaries that are actually ethical
Chiang Mai is one of those places that doesn’t try too hard, because it doesn’t need to. It’s easy to navigate, surprisingly calm for a city, and best experienced without rushing from one “must-see” to the next.
You can’t do everything in a day… which is really just your sign to stay longer in the first place 😉
So instead of trying to squeeze it all in, let’s zoom in on what a thoughtfully planned day in northern Thailand can actually look like — one that balances culture, food, and just enough structure to feel intentional (without feeling dizzy from over-scheduling).

MORNING
If you’re up early, you might catch monks walking through the streets collecting alms, which is part of daily life here. After that, coffee is non-negotiable! Chiang Mai has one of the best coffee scenes in Southeast Asia, and this is not meant to mimic your “grab and go” drive-thru coffee at home. Once you’re fully caffeinated, take a slow wander through the Old City temples.
AFTERNOON
This is where you choose your “one thing” and build the afternoon around it. Maybe it’s time at an ethical elephant sanctuary, or maybe you’ll opt for a Thai cooking class, where you’ll learn just enough to come home overly confident in your new skills.

EVENING
This is when the night markets take over and ideally, your evening revolves around them. When in Chiang Mai, khao soi is a must. Rich coconut curry broth, crispy noodles, and the kind of dish that makes you question every other meal you’ve had that week.
Chiang Mai is a really strong way to kick off a Thailand itinerary, and it pairs easily with time in Phuket for beachy downtime or Krabi for dramatic scenery.
If you’ve seen those dreamy lantern photos floating around, they’re tied to Yi Peng Lantern Festival, which happens once a year and requires advance planning (and tickets!). Beautiful, yes… but not something you’ll just stumble into, so if it’s on your list, it’s worth planning your entire trip around it!
Thailand on your travel bucket list? Let’s talk! We can map out an itinerary that actually matches how you want the trip to feel, not just what you think you “should” see.
